Our current office premises were built on an empty site in the Bokaap in 2015. The exterior facade is in keeping with the neighbourhood aesthetic while the materiality of the building is totally transformed. The structure at the boundaries remains concrete, while all external walls are hempcrete and the whole interior is made of timber.
This three-storey building was designed to house a mixture of uses and conceptualised as a living system. It includes a bio-gas digestor, edible rooftop garden, rain water harvesting tanks and soon-to-be solar panels. These systems are integrated and rely on each other for full functionality.
