Excelsior adds a contemporary timber “box” above an existing building, formed from prefabricated glulam and CLT mass-timber structure infilled with hempcrete. The lightweight timber system enables rapid, clean construction, with elements craned into place above the roofline. The mass timber improved acoustic and thermal performance while significantly reducing embodied carbon. A sky lobby clearly articulates the junction between the existing structure below and the new sustainable addition above.
